
Kingfisher numbers have declined dramatically since 1974. Severe winters can lead to as many as 90% of Britain’s kingfishers perishing and many young kingfishers die within days of fledging because their first dives leave them waterlogged so they drown
They have RSPB amber status and are the subject of a campaign by the Wildlife Trust for Bedforshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire.
